The funeral of 17-year-old Nathan Dixon Gill who was killed in a weekend car crash in Co Donegal has taken place in Buncrana.

The teenager died along with close friend Nathan Farrell (18) when their car left the main Derry to Moville road early on Saturday.

Three teenage friends, Ronan Boyd, Jimmy McKenna and Ricky Fegan, were also injured in the accident. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

All five had been returning to their Buncrana homes after a night out.

Today's funeral took place at at St Mary's Church, Cockhill, Buncrana. Nathan Farrell's funeral will take place in the same church tomorrow.

Parish priest Fr Francis Bradley said the teens were part of a very close group of friends.

“They were shortly to go on holiday together for their first holiday away. In fact, Nathan Dixon-Gill’s mother, Sinead, showed me the photographs which Nathan had taken just on Friday last for his passport, for his first passport so that he could go off on this holiday,” he said.

Fr Bradley said there is a “legacy of loss” in Buncrana following the latest tragedy to hit the town.

“We are suffering too much loss in this respect in this area,” he said.
