The agency which manages the Republic's debt and Prize Bonds has been forced to shut its website over a suspected hack.
The National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) said it temporarily suspended access as a precaution.
"The website is hosted offsite with no connection to the NTMA's IT systems or operations," a spokesman said.
"This was a precautionary measure after the agency detected an unauthorised attempt to publish content on its website from a remote source."
A note on the NTMA website said it was shut for maintenance.
The NTMA said standard IT protocols took effect as soon as the attempted hacking was detected.
"This suspension has no impact on the NTMA's IT systems or operations. Access to the website will be restored as soon as possible," the spokesman said.
The agency is responsible for managing the national debt and for borrowing money for the state as well as state savings schemes and the Prize Bonds. The National Asset Management Agency (Nama) operates under NTMA.
