CANNABIS worth €37.5 million has been seized at Dublin Port.

The drugs weighing 1,873 kilos were found at the port on Friday as part of an investigation by gardaí and customs officers.

The drug seizure is the largest in the Republic in years. The find was made as part of an ongoing probe into a Dublin-based criminal gang.

The drugs were discovered hidden in 'wide load' containers which were labelled as containing machinery parts. The drugs were vacuum packed and concealed to avoid being spotted by by X-rays and sniffer dogs.

The containers came into the port on a ship from mainland Europe.

No one has been arrested.

Gardaí believe the drugs were destined for the Irish market.
