Man in his fifties killed in road accident in Co Donegal

A MAN has been killed in a road accident in Co Donegal in the early hours of Boxing Day.

Gardai in Falcarragh are investigating the single-vehicle collision in which the victim, who was the sole occupant of the car, died.

The accident occurred on a minor road at Curransport, Gortahork, sometime after 1.30am and 11.30am.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body been removed for a post mortem examination and the scene has been preserved for forensic collision investigators.

Meanwhile, the M2 motorway was closed in both directions due to a serious road traffic collision involving numerous vehicles.

The incident happened on Monday night, and the motorway was shut between Sandyknowes and Templepatrick.

Diversions were put in place and motorists advised by police to avoid the area.
