Woman from north killed in two-car collision in Donegal

A 25-year-old woman from Northern Ireland has died in a car crash in Co Donegal.

The two-car collision happened at Fahan, outside Buncrana, just before 11pm on Thursday.

The woman, who was driving one of the cars, was fatally injured.

The driver of the other car, a 20-year-old man, was injured and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

There were no passengers in either car.

The road was closed to allow a technical examination by forensic experts. Gardai appealed for witnesses.

Separately, a pensioner died after being hit by a car in Drumshambo, Co Leitrim.

The 74-year-old woman was walking at Acres on the Carrick on Shannon Road at around 7.15pm on Thursday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car - a 50-year-old woman - was uninjured.

There were no passengers in the car.

Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney sent his condolences to the family of a young woman killed in a car crash in Donegal.



Mr McCartney said;  "The death of this young woman in a road crash is tragic. 



"A death on the road is tragic at any time of year but it is all the more poignant at Christmas. 



"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this woman at this sad time."
