ARMED robbers wearing Halloween masks raided a Dundalk bingo hall on Wednesday, making off with an undisclosed sum of money.

The robbery happened just after 9pm in the Let's Bingo hall on the Racecourse Road in the border town, according to Independent.ie.

A group of up to five men entered the hall brandishing hammers and baseball bats, demanding staff to hand over money and the bingo players to be quiet, say eye witnesses.

They also took cash from the arcade.

Around 100 people, some of them elderly, were in the hall at the time.

It's understood that none of the bingo players or staff were badly hurt during the robbery but were left shocked and shaken by the ordeal, which was over within minutes.

Gardaí were called to the scene and are investigating.
