A 13-year-old boy hit by a car while cycling his bike in Drogheda at the weekend has died from his injuries, gardai said.

The collision happened on Sunday on the N51 Slane Road in the Co Louth town at about 8.30pm.

The boy was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after suffering what were described as serious injuries. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Gardai said the boy died from his injuries in hospital on Tuesday night.

They are seeking witnesses who travelled on the Slane Road between between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Sunday.

Separately, a 91-year-old man has died after being involved in a car crash in Dunboyne, Co Meath.

The car he was driving collided with a truck on the R147 road at about 12.55pm on Tuesday, gardai said.

The pensioner and sole occupant of the car was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck was also taken to Connolly Hospital with minor injuries.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to get in touch.
