GARDAI have seized more than £180,000 of suspected heroin after stopping two UK-registered vehicles on the motorway just south of the border.

A 30-year-old woman and two men aged 24 and 41 were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.

They are due to appear in court in Drogheda on Monday charged in connection with the seizure.

It follows an operation as part of ongoing investigations by An Garda Síochána and the PSNI into cross-border criminal activity.

Two UK-registered vehicles were stopped by gardaí on Saturday at about 3.15pm just south of the border on the M1.

Suspected heroin with an estimated street value of €210,000 (£180,000) was seized in the operation.

Follow-up searches were also conducted on both sides of the border.
