A BILL to allow for abortions in cases of fatal foetal abnormality has been defeated in the Dáil.

TDs rejected it by 95 votes to 45.

The bill, brought by Independent TD Mick Wallace, was deemed to be unconstitutional by the Attorney General.

Several Independent TDs in the minority Government voted in favour of the bill after Taoiseach Enda Kenny said Cabinet members could have a free vote.
