A 24-year-old man has appeared in court in Dublin charged with the gangland murder of David Byrne in February.

Patrick Hutch, from Champions Avenue in Dublin 1, was remanded in custody to appear before a court again next week.

Byrne (33), from Raleigh Square in Crumlin, was shot dead when two armed and masked men dressed as gardaí burst into a boxing weigh-in and sprayed him with automatic gunfire at the Regency Hotel on February 5.

The killing was part of an ongoing feud between the rival Hutch and Kinahan crime gangs.

Patrick Hutch is the brother of the first victim of the feud, Gary Hutch, who was shot dead in Spain last September.

He appeared before a special sitting of Dublin District Court on Wednesday night.

There was no application for bail.

Hutch was remanded in custody to appear before Clover Hill District Court on May 25.

Three men remained in custody last night in connection with the killing.

Two men aged 59 and 38 and a third man in his fifties were being questioned at separate Garda stations across Dublin.
