COLDPLAY have dubbed a teenage Donegal singer's version of one of their songs as "better than their own".

Eve Belle Murtagh (18), from Gortahork, near Falcarragh, performed Coldplay's Violet Hill on BBC Northern Ireland's Irish language magazine programme I Lar an Aonaigh.

Since then her version of the hit has gone viral and caught the attention of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

In a series of tweets from the band's official account, Eve Bell's vocals were praised - with the musicians declaring: "Loving this cover of Violet Hill - great job"

Another tweet read: "We think this might be better than the original.

Eve Belle told the Irish News that she was "delighted" that her vocals had caught the attention of Coldplay.

She added: "The fact that the band heard my cover, let alone liked it so much, is incredible.

"I still can't quite believe it, I've loved the band for years."

She added: "Violet Hill is such a beautiful song as it is, so that made me want to cover it.

"There's so much emotion there that really resonated with me. I suppose that's what I focused on when I sang it."

She also wrote on her Facebook page: "Can't believe Coldplay heard my cover of Violet Hill from I Lár An Aonaigh, let alone tweeted about it twice?

"I may or may not be screaming what is happening right now. I'd love if you could give it a listen and a share."
