FRIENDS and neighbours paid their respects as the remains of the Buncrana pier tragedy returned home to Derry city.

Louise McGrotty was there as the remains of her mother Ruth Daniels, her sister Jodie Lee Daniels, partner Sean McGrotty and sons Mark and Evan returned home.

The five family members died when Mr McGrotty’s Audi Q7 slid from a slipway at Buncrana pier into Lough Swilly at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

Within minutes, the car had been carried into deeper water and submerged.

Kerrykeel man Davitt Walsh, who also visiting the area, swam out to the car and managed to save four-month-old baby Rionagh-Ann.

Rionagh-Ann was released from Letterkenny hospital into her mother Louise James's care last night, as she and other devastated relatives begin to prepare for funerals expected on Thursday.
