A RYANAIR flight from Morocco to Dublin was delayed for several hours before take-off when police were forced to detain a "disruptive" passenger.

The incident happened on Thursday evening as the plane was due to leave the city of Marrakesh.

A spokesman for Ryanair said the budget airline "will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour".

"This flight from Marrakesh to Dublin was delayed ahead of take-off after a passenger became disruptive and was removed and detained by police," he said.

"The safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for local police."

A spokeswoman for the Republic's Department of Foreign Affairs said: "The department has received no request for consular assistance in this case. We stand ready to provide assistance if requested."
