DUBLIN is the second most popular destination for New Year's Eve, according to data from hotel search website Trivago.

The Irish capital is the only destination from the UK or Ireland on the list and lost out only to Amsterdam as the best place to be for New Year's Eve.

Analysis by the hotel search website Trivago found that city breaks were the most popular overseas destinations to visit between Boxing Day and January 4.

Denise Bartlett, of Trivago, explained: “The city break is by far the most popular option this New Year, with only one winter sun destination (Tenerife) featuring in the top 10 international destinations.

“Similarly, in the UK travellers are heading to the largest cities, with only one non-city destination (Blackpool) in the UK top 10.”
