AN Aer Lingus flight with 181 passengers en route to Portugal has made an emergency landing at Dublin Airport.

Flight EI490 was minutes into its journey to Faro when pilots reported a fault in one of the engines and turned back.

It is the third incident involving an Aer Lingus plane in the last week after a flight out of New York's JFK to Shannon had to turn back over hydraulic issues while a flight to Munich on Saturday also had to return to Dublin.

The airline described the latest issue as a technical fault with reports of vibrations being felt from one of the engines.

The flight took off at 6.20am and was back in Dublin by 7.06am.

Aer Lingus said: "Emergency services were in attendance as a precaution. All 181 passengers were disembarked safely and will be flown to Faro later this morning.

"We do not anticipate any further disruption to our schedule as a result."
