Official in Dublin Airport have seized a ‘prohibited item’ that security viewed as a threat – a toddler’s Minion 'Fart Blaster.'

The toddler’s family were surprised to learn that the child’s toy gun had to be confiscated by airport security as the fact it had a trigger mechanism meant it was a prohibited item.

A friend of the family tweeted about the incident yesterday.

The gun is a toy version of a weapon featured in the animated film Despicable Me 2. It lights up, makes fart sound effects and produces a ‘banana-like scent.’

A spokesperson for Dublin Airport said that the toy has been kept so that the family can collect it when they return. They added that the airport’s regulations forbids any kind of replica guns.

“Toy guns and replica guns are on the prohibited items list and we urge people to check this before they travel,” said the spokesperson.

“We don’t make the rules but we apply the rules consistently; anything that is a replica gun with a trigger mechanism on it is listed as a prohibited item.”
