THE Liberal Democrats have appointed former Secretary of State for Scotland Alistair Carmichael as the party's Northern Ireland spokesman.
The MP for Orkney and Shetland, who is also the LibDems' chief whip in Westminster, previously served as a spokesman for Northern Ireland and Scotland a decade ago.
Born on the Hebridean island of Islay, he served as Scottish secretary in the Tory-Lib Dem coalition from October 2013 up until the general election in May 2015.
