SINN Féin has confirmed that its MLAs have withdrawn from Stormont committees as an election looks increasingly likely.

While the assembly does not reconvene until next week, some statutory committees have been sitting this week.

Yesterday saw MLAs attend the education, economy, infrastructure, finance and public accounts committees.

However, absent from their number were Sinn Féin assembly members, including committee chairs Barry McElduff and Conor Murphy, who head up the education and economy committees respectively.

Sinn Féin later confirmed that its MLAs were no longer attending Stormont committees but declined to comment further.
