A SINN Féin councillor being described as 'Northern Irish' is among some of the more unusual entries found within councillors' declarations and business disclosures.

Mid Ulster councillor Brian McGuigan's nationality is recorded as 'Northern Irish' at Companies House for his directorship of Magherafelt District Advice Services, which was not disclosed on his council declaration form.

Another councillor in Newry, Mourne and Down, the SDLP's Brian Quinn, is also described as a 'Northern Irish' director of Newry firm Travel 4 All CIC.

He also did not disclose his involvement in the firm on his declaration of interest form submitted to the council.

Almost 170 councillors have not updated their declaration forms since 2014, but one councillor managed to submit his form in the future.

DUP Newry, Mourne and Down representative Harry Harvey's declaration of interest was dated June 3 2017.

The DUP's Angela Smyth was co-opted onto Mid and East Antrim council in October to replace Gordon Lyons after he was appointed as an MLA.

But Ms Smyth, a case worker for DUP MP Sammy Wilson, describes herself on her declaration form as an "elected" member of the council.

Ms Smyth is among dozens of councillors who declared that they also work for assembly members, MPs and MEPs.

The DUP's Mandy Girvan declares that she is a "partner in a property portfolio" – but gives no further information on the locations of the properties.

The Antrim and Newtownabbey councillor, whose husband is South Antrim MLA Paul Girvan, also does not disclose being a director of a company called Grow South Antrim.
