Sinn Féin's Niall Ó Donnghaile seeking election to Seanad
FORMER Belfast mayor Niall Ó Donnghaile is among seven Sinn Féin candidates who will contest Seanad elections in the Republic.
The Short Strand man is the party's only representative from the north seeking election to the Oireachtas's upper house.
Seanad Éireann has 60 members, 43 of whom represent five vocational 'panels'. A further 11 senators are nominated by the taoiseach, and the remaining six are elected by graduates of National University of Ireland and Trinity College.
Polling by the panels made up of TDs, outgoing senators and councillors will close on April 25 and for university members the following day.
