Sinn Féin has selected Linda Dillon to replace Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness as an assembly candidate in Mid Ulster.

Ms Dillon is currently chair of Mid Ulster District Council and will be joined on the ticket by sitting MLA Ian Milne and agriculture minister Michelle O’Neill.

A selection event was held in south Derry after Mr McGuinness revealed he would run in his native Foyle constituency when assembly elections are held in May.

Four candidates were vying for the three Mid Ulster nominations, with Co Tyrone councillor Cathal Mallaghan losing out.
