THIEVES have stolen a keyless BMW from outside a house in Newtownards.

The BMW X3 was taken from the house on River Hill Road between Thursday night and Friday morning.

Police warned the owners of keyless cars to be vigilant.

"With advances in technology, thieves are now able to gain access to your vehicle by redirecting the wireless signal from your key fob," a spokesman said.

The PSNI advised drivers to keep their car in a garage or lock the gates to their driveway.

"Use physical car locks such as steering column locks and chains, as well as keeping all car keys (including spares) away from exterior doors and walls," he said.

"Motorists are also advised to use a blocking pouch also called a Faraday pouch (lined with metallic material) to help block the wireless signal from your key fob."

Police asked anyone who was travelling in the area on Thursday night or Friday morning and who noticed anything suspicious to contact them on 101.
