Tributes to pedestrian (21) killed in a collision with vehicle recovery lorry in Co Tyrone

A 21-year-old pedestrian killed when struck by a vehicle recovery lorry in Co Tyrone has been remembered as "such a gentle and quiet young man".

Lee Usher (21) from the Portadown area died at the scene of the fatal crash on the Tullywiggan Road in Cookstown on Wednesday.

PSNI Sergeant Joanne Boyd said: "Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, received and responded to a report of a collision in the Tullywiggan Road area shortly before 3.45pm.

"The collision occurred close to the junction with Bramble Lane.

"The road was closed for some time but has since reopened.

"Our enquiries are continuing and the Collision Investigation Unit is appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision, or who saw Lee or the vehicle in the area around the time of the collision to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1165 of 06/04/22.

"We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam or other footage."

Tributes have been paid to Mr Usher on social media, with many describing him as a "lovely young man".

One friend said: "My heart is breaking for you all. Lee was such a gentle and quiet young man", while another said: "Devastating isn't the word. My heart is breaking for one of the nicest, most caring families".

Another added that his death was "devastating news, such a lovely young man thoughts and prayers to family and friends at such a sad time - truly heartbreaking".
