POLICE in Scotland are investigating after bottle-throwing incidents during Sunday's Old Firm clash in Glasgow led to a Celtic official suffering a head injury and the second-half of the match being delayed as broken glass was removed from the pitch.

It is understood a Celtic physio was injured as players and team staff made their way towards the pitch at Ibrox stadium for the second half.

A Celtic FC spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a member of our backroom staff was struck by a glass bottle.

"He required urgent medical treatment and stitches to a head wound. The matter is now in the hands of Police Scotland."

Meanwhile, the second-half of the match was delayed when a glass bottle was hurled towards Celtic goalkeeper Joe Harte in a separate incident

Staff at the stadium delayed kick-off as they collected pieces of the broken bottle from grass close to the goalmouth.

Footage from the Scottish Premiership game showed Harte directing pitch officials towards the shards, which were removed before play resumed.

Celtic went on to win the match which finished with a score of 2-1.

Sky Sports commentator and former Celtic player Andy Walker said it was "shameful anyone would throw anything on to the pitch, let alone a broken bottle".

Fellow Sky Sports pundit and ex-Rangers player and manager Ally McCoist condemned the throwing of the bottle as a act of "gross stupidity".

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Police Scotland said yesterday the force was investigating both incidents.
