PRINCE Andrew should be stripped of his title of Baron Killyleagh after he settled a US civil sexual assault case, an Alliance councillor has said.

The British royal agreed to pay an undisclosed sum as part of the settlement.

He also accepted that Virginia Giuffre, who brought the case, had suffered as a victim of abuse.

Ms Guiffre had claimed the duke sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was 17.

She also said she was the victim of sex trafficking and abuse by US financier, the late Jeffrey Epstein, from the age of 16.

Prince Andrew was given the title of Baron Killyleagh by his mother Queen Elizabeth on his wedding day in July 1986.

Killyleagh in Co Down is home to the Twelfth century Killyleagh Castle.

Alliance councillor Patrick Brown called for the prince to be stripped of his Baron Killyleagh title following the abuse case.

"As a councillor for Killyleagh, and following this settlement, I'll be writing to Buckingham Palace asking that his title of Baron be revoked also," he said.

A month ago, it was announced that Prince Andrew's military titles and royal patronages would be returned to the queen.

He also stopped using the title His Royal Highness in an official capacity.

However, he retained his titles of Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh.
