There have been calls for clarity over Prince Andrew's role in public life and how he will fund a financial settlement, after settling the US civil sexual assault case brought by Virginia Giuffre.

The Duke of York has agreed to pay an undisclosed sum as part of the settlement, and accepted Ms Giuffre had suffered as a victim of abuse.

Ms Giuffre had been suing the prince, claiming he sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was 17 - claims which he has repeatedly denied.

Yesterday it was announced they had reached an out-of-court settlement.

Prince Andrew made no admission of liability.

No details of the payout to Ms Giuffre have been made public and there have been calls for more detail about where the money will be coming from.

While some newspapers reported the payout to be in the region of £10-12m finances expert David McClure said he thought the payout the Duke of York is set to make is likely to be about £5m.

The author said he expected Andrew would "more than likely probably have to turn to the Queen" for assistance in paying the out-of-court settlement in the civil sex claim against him.

"I think if the figure does turn out to be in the order of £5-10 million, I don't think he has that money and I think it is more than likely the Queen will fork out some money".
