One patient who previously tested positive for Covid-19 has died, the Department of Health has confirmed.

It brings the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 3,015.

Another 3,420 positive cases of the virus were also recorded.

This morning, there were 440 Covid-positive patients in hospital, with 31 in intensive care. Of these, 22 are on ventilators.

There are nine unoccupied ICU beds in the north, four less than yesterday.

105 per cent of hospital beds are occupied, meaning hospitals are over capacity by 167 beds.

Today's figures were released after  Health Minister Robin Swann spoke candidly on the toll inflicted on his family by the multiple death threats he has received over his handling of the Covid pandemic.

Mr Swann also accused some of his political critics of using “dog whistle” politics to give cover to those engaging in abusive behaviour against him.
