Covid-19: Six more deaths as 2,706 new cases recorded

Another six people have died after contracting Covid-19, the Department of Health has confirmed.

It follows seven deaths recorded over the weekend, bringing the total number linked to the pandemic to 3,014.

Another 2,706 positive cases were reported. It means there have been  37,419 cases over the past seven days.

This morning there were 387 Covid-positive patients in hospital, with 31 in intensive care. Of these, 22 are on ventilators.

There are 13 unoccupied ICU beds in the north.

Hospitals are over capacity by a combined 199 beds. Only Belfast City Hospital and Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry are reporting any unoccupied beds.

Today's figures were released after Chief Medical Officer Sir Michael McBride warned that Northern Ireland is set to reach the peak of the Omicron wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the next couple of weeks.
