LIAM Neeson is to star in a new Hollywood movie due to be filmed in Co Donegal next year.

Neeson (69) has stared in a string of cinema hits including Schindler’s List, Love Actually and the Taken franchise among others.

In the new venture, The Land of Saints and Sinners, Neeson will be joined by Belfast actor Ciaran Hinds. Under the direction of Oscar nominated producer, Robert Lorenz, he will play the role of a recently retired assassin who is forced to take on three terrorists. It is believed the production crew are also keen to hire local actors as extras for the movie.

Filming for the new production is expected to get underway in March. It is believed Neeson will spend up to two months in Co Donegal, mostly in and around Killybegs in the south west of the county. The area is no stranger to Hollywood A-listers as Sex in the City star, Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband, Matthew Broderick are frequent visitors to nearby Kilcar where they have had a holiday home for many years.

The Land of Saints and Sinners will be the second time Neeson has worked with Lorenz in the last year. He received strong reviews for his starring role in the Lorenz-directed The Marksman where he played a rancher and former marine who helps a young boy escape a Mexican drug cartel in Arizona.
