POLICE have appealed for information following a burglary in Co Antrim.

A man armed with a eight-inch kitchen knife and a woman entered a house in the Kinhilt Street area of Ballymena on Monday at around 10.30pm.

Police said the female occupant of the house had been awoken by a sound.

"When she came downstairs to investigate she noticed that the front door keys were missing from the coat rack in the hallway as well as the rear door, within the kitchen, had been left open," a spokeswoman said.

"A number of kitchen items had been stolen.

"The victim’s son, who was also in the property at the time of the incident, gave chase to the suspects close to an alleyway at the rear of the property," a spokesman said.

"An altercation took place with the male suspect and the victim’s son which resulted in him sustaining cuts to his hands.

"Both suspects made off in the direction of Waveney Court."

The male suspect is described as aged around 18-20 year's-old, with blue eyes and wearing a black and white Adidas jacket and black face mask.

The woman is also believed to be a similar age, around 5ft 4in tall and wearing a dark coloured jacket with the hood up and black face mask.
