A TEENAGER from Co Tyrone who died in a work-related accident has been described as a "loveable, funny, hard-working, smart young man".

Electrician Adam Newell (18), from Coagh, died on Saturday as he carried out work in Moneymore, Co Derry.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Newell, who was a "popular member" of the East Tyrone Cycling Club in Cookstown.

In a message posted on social media alongside a photograph of the teenager on his bike, the club said it had learned of the "tragic and untimely death of one of our junior members".

It cancelled all of its Sunday club events as a mark of respect.

"Adam was a talented young rider who loved racing and competitive cycling," the club said.

"He had a natural ability on the bike and was a very popular member of our club. We all have fond memories of Adam and he will be sorely missed.

"We extend our most sincere and heartfelt sympathies to Adam’s family."

Stewartstown Primary School also said it was "devastated to hear of the sudden death" of its past pupil.

"We have so many fond memories of Adam during his time with us," it said.

Other tributes described Mr Newell as "such a fun-loving young man and a great wee cyclist", with another said he was a "loveable, funny, hard-working, smart young man with everything in front of him".

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the accident, which happened on the Tirgan Road in Moneymore on Saturday at around 10am.

Mr Newell's funeral is due to take place tomorrow at Donaghendry Parish Church, Stewartstown at 2pm followed by interment in the adjoining churchyard.

He is survived by his parents Andy, Mary, sisters Megan and Jemma and family circle.
