A man was arrested in Co Derry yesterday after a fight broke out close to Castledawson roundabout.

It is understood a sword and other weapons were brandished during the clash at11.20am.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and is currently in custody.

Police say the man was arrested after they received a report of a "number of men fighting in a car park".

The area is close to the main Derry to Belfast road and a park and ride facility used by dozens of people each day.

SDLP assembly member Patsy McGlone last night said: "It is very disturbing that these types of criminal fights would take place along an open road such as this where law abiding members of the public park their vehicles and indeed children would be getting onto buses.

"I hope that police deal with this in a robust manner."
