A CO Armagh man who died more than a week after a farm accident has been described as "highly respected" and a "valued member of the community".

Seamus Conroy from Tassagh passed away in hospital on Wednesday.

The father-of-four had been airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast from a farm on the Tassagh Road, close to Keady, on September 25 at around 3pm.

It has been reported that he had been mixing slurry at the time.

A police spokesman confirmed a man had died in hospital "following an incident at a farm in the Keady area".

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed," he said.

Tributes were last night paid to Mr Conroy, who was regarded as a "valued member of the community".

In a post on Facebook, Granemore GFC said it was "with sadness" that the club had learnt of Mr Conroy's death.

"Seamus was a highly respected man in Granemore and the wider community," it said.

"A member of Granemore GFC from a young age, Seamus played football for Granemore up to senior level and later supported the club in every endeavour the club pursued.

"A valued member of the community he was always available to offer up his services, helping out with large developments that were taking place around the club."

Numerous tributes have also been paid to Mr Conroy on social media, with many describing him as "such a gentleman".

One woman wrote that he was "a great man and neighbour", while another added said "we couldn’t have wished for a better neighbour and family friend".

Others said he was a "great Gael" and "a gentleman and witty man".

His funeral is due to take place at St Mary's Church Granemore tomorrow at noon followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr Conroy is survived by his wife Liz, children Ursula, Clare, Lisa and Patrick and wider family circle.
