POLICE are investigating an arson attack "with intent to endanger life" in north Belfast after a pram was set on fire in a communal hallway at a block of flats.

Two occupants were treated for smoke inhalation following the blaze in Woodvale Road shortly after 5.30am.

It is understood that the arson being treated as "deliberate" but is not being linked to two racially motivated attacks in the area on Thursday when a child aged under two was among a group of people forced to flee their homes after properties were smashed and a car torched.

A PSNI spokesman said it was too early to establish a motive for the latest arson attack, but it’s believed that race is not currently a line of police enquiry.

All of the occupants inside the flats were evacuated by firefighters and two were treated for smoke inhalation and the building has smoke and fire damage.

Police asked anyone with information to contact the on 101 quoting reference number 550 22/08/21.
