POLICE were last night continuing to question six men following a car crash and fightIn Derry.
Dramatic CCTV footage at McGinley’s filling station and convenience store on Buncrana Road was widely shared on social media following the incident which occurred shortly before lunch time on Tuesday.
The footage showed a man running across the store car park carrying a pitch fork seconds after a car ploughed into a stationary vehicle on Buncrana Road. The female driver of the stationary car can be seen lifting a young girl from the back seat and running to safety.
As drivers from a number of other cars damaged in the collision get out of their vehicles, a brawl can be seen taking place in the background.
Mobile phone footage from inside the store, also posted on social media, shows police confronting two men. An officer carrying an expandable baton can be seen holding one man before other officers arrive and force the men to the ground.
The store remained closed throughout the rest of the day on Tuesday as police also closed off Buncrana Road.
Police said officers were called to the scene following reports of a group of men fighting in the filling station forecourt.
A PSNI spokeswoman said: “It was also reported a number of vehicles had been involved in a collision at the location.”
The spokeswoman said the six men remained in police custody yesterday evening.
