Staff trap knife-wielding armed robber into the back of a takeaway shop

STAFF managed to trap an armed robber at the back of a takeaway shop in Armagh after he tried to take cash from the till.

The masked man, armed with a knife, attempted to rob the premises on Killylea Road at around 10.10pm on Sunday.

A police spokeswoman said that after pushing past one member of staff and trying to take money from the till he was confronted by two workers and "an altercation ensued, during which he lifted a knife and threatened them".

"The employees managed detain the suspect in a room in the rear of the premises until police arrived at the scene."

She said one of the staff members suffered a minor injury to his armpit/rib cage area.

"The suspect was arrested on suspicion of offences including attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, and is in police custody at this time."
