THE PSNI has been asked to investigate the theft of a sign put up by a majority unionist council marking the centenary of partition in Ireland.

It is understood the 'NI 100' sign had been placed in a flowerbed in the Coleraine Road area of Ballycastle in Co Antrim by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

DUP North Antrim MLA Mervyn Storey has called for police to investigate the theft and recent social media posts relating to the sign.

"This thief is to be condemned as I know it will by the majority of the people of Ballycastle," he said.

"I have referred recent social media comments to the police and asked that this matter is taken seriously and investigated."
