VETERAN republican Bobby Storey will be commemorated in an online event to be held on the first anniversary of his death next week.

Sinn Féin will host the event on its YouTube channel at 7.30pm on Monday.

The commemoration will also be streamed on Belfast Sinn Féin and An Phoblacht's Facebook pages.

The funeral of the high-profile republican drew strong criticism from unionists last year.

Around 2,000 mourners, including senior Sinn Féin politicians, lined several streets in west Belfast at a time when strict Covid regulations were in place.

The decision by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) not to recommend any prosecutions in relation to the funeral prompted calls from unionists for Chief Constable Simon Byrne to resign.

However, a report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC), published last month, found no bias in how the PSNI handled the funeral.
