A viable device was discovered during a security alert in Co Antrim yesterday.

Several residents had to be evacuated at around 8am while army bomb disposal experts examined the device on Main Street in Glenavy.

The item was later removed for forensic examination.

The alert ended at around 1pm.

Sinn Féin councillor Gary McCleave condemned the "reckless attack" and added that the object was discovered in the same place that a viable pipe bomb was found last month.

Green Party councillor Simon Lee said it was disturbing that another suspicious object had been found.
