Seven people arrested by detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 27-year-old woman in Dundonald during the early hours of Tuesday 1 June, have now been released on police bail to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.

The death of the mother-of-two, who died while being treated by paramedics at a house in Co Down, is believed by police to be linked to an earlier road collision.

East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson who said the young woman’s death was a “tragedy”.

"I can describe it in no other terms. There are grieving children who have lost their mother, a wider community in complete shock and a police investigation,” he said.

"I encourage anyone with information to share it with the police and do so quickly.”

A PSNI spokesman said yesterday officers responded to a 4.30am report of the crash involving a black BMW, on Comber Road, Dundonald close to its junction with Hillhead Road.

When they arrived they found the car at the scene but its occupants were reported to have left in a Suzuki car.

"A short time later police received a report from the NIAS (Ambulance Service) that they had been called to an address in Ardmore Avenue in Dundonald where a female, believed to have been involved in the collision, was located," he said.

"NIAS staff attended and treated the female. Sadly, she was subsequently pronounced deceased.

"A post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death."

A grey Suzuki Swift was discovered a short distance from the property and seven people - four men and three women - who were also at the address were arrested on suspicion of a number of motoring offences.

"Our investigation is at an early stage, however, we are investigating a definite link between the collision on the Comber Road, and the discovery of the female at the property in Dundonald," the spokesman said.

"We are also investigating reports of damage caused to a property in Lisbane Drive in Newtownards earlier in the morning that may be linked."

He asked anyone on Comber Road between Dundonald and Comber between 4am and 4:30am this morning who saw a car matching the description of the black BMW or grey Suzuki Swift or witnessed the collision or saw any other vehicles in the area afterwards to contact officers.

He also appealed for anyone who was in the Ardmore Avenue area of Dundonald early on Tuesday morning and saw a grey Suzuki Swift or with information about the collision or the death of the woman to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 185 01/06/21.

They are also seeking footage of the collision on Comber Road or of the grey Suzuki Swift around Dundonald.
