A MARQUEE erected in Dublin by the parents of a man who got married in Co Armagh yesterday was dismantled after a court order was issued for its removal.

It came after a judge told Michael and Johanna Connors to take down the marquee they had erected at their Dublin home for their son's wedding reception.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council was granted leave by the court to hire an independent contractor to remove the marquee if the couple refused to.

Dublin Circuit Civil Court heard it had been set up at a halting site in the Leopardstown Road area.

A barrister for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council told the court that Mr Connors told a council official he knew he was breaching tenancy and Covid-19 rules and regulations, but said "it is my son's wedding and he has no other place to go".

Mr Connors had also said his son was getting married in Co Armagh yesterday morning and the marquee was to facilitate 40 guests.

However, judge Sinéad Ní Chúlacháin said photographs of the marquee showed there were 11 tables surrounded by chairs, enough to accommodate more than 60 people.

In a statement last night, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council confirmed it carried out the removal of the temporary structure as per the court order.
