LINE of Duty actress Vicky McClure has paid tribute to the programme's "home" city of Belfast as she signed off Series 6

Writing on her Instagram yesterday, McClure, who played DI Kate Fleming, posed a picture with her co-stars Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar and wished fans a "Happy Line of Duty day!"

"Please excuse the slightly over emotional post but it’s been quite a surreal time," she wrote.

"The audience support has been unreal, the creativity of merchandise, the artwork, ground breaking viewing figures and the hype!!

"It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to be a part of Line of Duty, not just because of the success of the show but the life long friendships we’ve all gained.

"We have such a talented & caring crew, a huge part of it’s success is down to them."

After singling out the "incredible cast in series 6" she went on to say: "Belfast, our LOD home. Thanks for the craic as always. Honestly, I can't thank YOU all enough for your love & dedication to the show."

She signed off with a message to show creator: " Raising my brew to you Jed Mercurio! The epitome of honesty & integrity.

(Martin Compston) @mrmartincompston & Adrian (Dunbar) I love you's 29!"

Compston also messaged as the finale was about to begin.

"Done about 40 laps of this flat in the last hour. Excitement, anxiety and terror are a lethal combination. Phone going off for the evening, hopefully we deliver an ending you all deserve"

Mercurio said "working with Vicky McClure, Martin Compston (and) Adrian Dunbar has been the highlight of my career.

"Thanks to the rest of the cast, our brilliant crews and the production team @worldprods @BBCOne @BBCTwo for six incredible seasons."
