A security alert at Ormeau Golf Club in south Belfast yesterday has been declared an elaborate hoax.

Homes were evacuated and Park Road and Cross Parade were closed for several hours as bomb disposal experts examined a suspicious object close to the club.

The alert was declared a hoax late yesterday afternoon.

The object was taken away for further examination.

Officers asked anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, or anyone with any information about the incident, to contact them on 101.
