A BELFAST man discovered unconscious in a stolen car has been jailed for four months.

David Connors was arrested after police located the Vauxhall Corsa taken during a raid in the city.

The 30-year-old, of Filbert Drive in the Dunmurry area, admitted a charge of taking and causing damage to a vehicle.

Belfast Magistrates' Court heard the car had been stolen during a burglary in December 2019.

Police tracked the Corsa down after it was spotted travelling erratically at Mill Pond Glen two days after Christmas.

"A co-accused was present in the driver's seat, and appeared unconscious," a prosecution lawyer said.

"This defendant was present in the front passenger seat and again seemed unconscious to police."

Defence solicitor Emmanuel Morgan sought credit for his client admitting the offence.

"He was a passenger, and rather than prolong the matter he has instructed me to enter the guilty plea," Mr Morgan said.

He indicated that Connors is also facing Crown Court proceedings in a burglary case which may be related.

Describing Connors' criminal record as "dreadful", District Judge Amanda Henderson ordered: "There will be four months in custody."

She also confirmed that he is to be disqualified from driving for a further four years.
