POLICE investigating a "brutal" attack on a man in Co Down are questioning two people.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was assaulted at an address on Fernmore Road in Bangor on February 28.

Police said they are treating the attack as attempted murder.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday and a 39-year-old man was detained this morning. 

Police also said a 47-year-old man arrested on Sunday was questioned and later released on bail to return at a future date.

A PSNI spokeswoman also confirmed that officers carried out follow up enquiries in the Glencairn area of north Belfast in connection with the assault.

Detective Inspector Darren McCracken said: "Our enquiries into this brutal attack are progressing and the community should be assured that at this point we are not actively seeking anyone else in relation to this crime.

"We would continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information to contact us by calling 101."
