APPLICATIONS for post-primary school places will be made online for the first time.

The Education Authority (EA) website will open for September 2021 applications from Monday, March 1.

Applications for pre-school and primary one places have been made online for the last three years.

The admissions process will open at noon on March 1 and close at 4pm on Tuesday March 16.

Schools will not make any decisions about their intake for 2021/22 until after the admissions process closes.

Maxine Harris, project lead digital admissions at the EA, said the process "does not operate on a first come

first served basis".

"We would encourage parents to read the guidance on our website and familiarise themselves with the process," she said.

The EA has advised parents to read the admissions criteria for each school they choose.

Parents are recommended to list at least four post-primary school choices, including at least one non-grammar school, and provide all relevant information on how their child meets the criteria for each school.
