A FURTHER four coronavirus deaths were confirmed in Northern Ireland yesterday while 263 more people tested positive for the virus.

There were 335 hospital beds occupied by Covid-19 patients, of which 49 were in intensive care.

On Saturday, the Department of Health confirmed three deaths - which was the lowest number since late November. An additional 276 cases were also recorded.

The north's overall death toll, based on a positive test for the disease, now stands at 2,033.

Covid hotspots including Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon as well as Newry, Mourne and Down have seen a drop in infection rates.

The department's dashboard also shows there have been 147 covid admissions to hospital in the past week, down from 208 the previous week.

By February 18, a total of 466,524 vaccines had been delivered, with 436,143 people receiving their first dose.

In the Republic, a further 679 cases of Covid-19 were last night reported by the Department of Health. One further death was confirmed.

On Saturday, 988 additional cases of the virus were confirmed bringing the total number of cases in the south to 214,378.

A further 26 deaths linked to Covid-19 were also reported, with 24 of the deaths occurring this month, with one in January and one in October.

The youngest of the 26 people was 58, while the oldest was 98. The median age of deaths was 81.
