A WEST Belfast school principal last night said staff were "heartbroken" by the disappearance of one of its pupils.

Cathal O'Doherty, head at St Clare's Primary School, was speaking after police appealed for help in finding a Sudanese family who have gone missing from an address in the west of the city.

Mohammad Ishak Musa (30), Oumama Abdullah Garnabi (24) and their four-year-old daughter Amani Mohammad Ishak have not been seen at their Harrogate Street home since October 2020.

They were staying at approved accommodation after entering the north from the Republic.

A police spokeswoman said Oumama was heavily pregnant when last seen in October, so it is believed that the couple would now also have a two or three-month-old baby with them.

Amani attended St Clare's from September until Halloween.

Mr O'Doherty said she "was so cute, a very small little girl, she was like a doll".

"She was lovely, very, very polite - a little quiet but that would have been because of the language barrier," he told the BBC.

"Obviously we're heartbroken. It seems very strange, there's just no rhyme or reason as to why they've gone missing."

Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist them with their enquiries to get in touch.
