AN arson attack on a flat in Co Tyrone has been described as "reckless".

A man was rescued by fire fighters from the burning building at Oldtown Street in Cookstown just before 8am today.

Police say an object was placed at the door and set alight.

The man was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation and smoke damage was caused to the property.

A spokesman for the PSNI said: "Enquiries into this reckless attack, which we are treating as arson with intent to endanger life, are continuing, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area between 7:45am and 8am, and who saw any suspicious activity to call us."
