A 28-year-old man has admitted the murder of an 11-year-old boy in the Republic.

The man pleaded guilty today at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin to murdering the boy, who cannot be named because he is a minor, on November 3 2019 in the south west of the country.

Prosecution counsel Michael Delaney SC told Mr Justice Michael White that victim’s name could not be reported and that there was a certain "family relationship" between the accused and deceased.

The judge directed the preparation of a victim impact report and remanded the man in custody until February1, when it is expected that he will be sentenced to the mandatory term of life imprisonment.
